The Oxfam Action Corps is a group of dedicated volunteers in more than a dozen US cities who campaign with Oxfam to fight poverty. Anyone can join the local effort!

In addition, you can apply to be one of two people from your city who Oxfam will fly to Washington DC for a free leadership training on April 5-8. You'll meet amazing activists and learn from the best, then share your knowledge with volunteers at home and help coordinate local activities throughout the year all with the support of dedicated Oxfam staff.

This year, Oxfam Action Corps volunteers will mobilize a political response to the challenge of our time: climate change and its impact on poor communities. Changes in the climate are already taking a severe toll on water, soil, and other essential resources in parts of the developing world. Without immediate US government commitment, such devastation may become far more widespread. We will need a strong network across the US to bring about change, and this is where you can help.

Here is what last year s Oxfam Action Corps volunteers said:

I liked it, loved it, actually. I now have a better appreciation for activism and I do believe that it can really make a difference! Debby, Recent graduate, University of Vermont

As an activist, I had done fundraising. But the Oxfam Action Corps was about public education and raising awareness, and I found people really appreciated my work. Khadija, Mechanical Engineer, Pennsylvania.

I got a better sense of the political process, especially the role of non-governmental organizations, and what s effective versus ineffective. Matthew, College Ethics Professor, Minnesota

My work with the Oxfam Action Corps has helped immensely in building organizing and mobilization skills. It was a great way for me to start reaching out and getting to know the people in the community. Julie, Assistant Human Resources/Office Manager, Colorado.

The greatest outcome has been getting to know the others in the Action Corps and at Oxfam America. What an amazing group of people! - John, Technology Start-up Director, Virginia
