| POSITION SUMMARY: The Watershed Lab, located in OMSI's Earth Science Hall, features exhibits and activities designed to help visitors learn about the complexity and importance of watersheds in their lives. Visitors can build a model stream with running water, rocks, and "trees,” view tiny stream residents under the microscope and discover where and how they live, and see live salmon and trout in various stages of development. Volunteers assist staff in facilitating interactive learning in the hall and lab through demonstrations, lab activities, live animals, and special events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Interact with visitors to help them explore and learn from exhibits and lab activities • Present earth science demonstrations to visitors. • Assist in the maintenance and appearance of the hall and lab. This may include animal care and assistance with opening and closing procedures. • Assist staff in hall/lab management and safety. • Assist with reserved classes as needed. • Assume tasks as assigned by hall staff. QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be at least 14 years of age. • Must present a professional appearance. • Ability to maintain a calm, pleasant, and cheerful demeanor in a variety of atmospheres. • Ablity to listen and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and age levels. • Must be dependable and punctual, and able to commit to 8 hours a month. • Must be self-directed and willing to take initiative. • Commitment to sharing accurate science information • Ability to follow OMSI rules and procedures. • Must be patient and detail oriented. • Must enjoy talking to the public.
