Oregon Literacy's semi-Annual scrabble tournament is May 19th – Portland

Why: To promote awareness for literacy and to raise funds for Oregon Literacy.

Oregon Literacy invites you to participate in our Annual Scrabble Tournament (now Semi-annual!) on May 19th, from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. The venue for this fun and lightly competitive tournament is great: The Gotham Tavern! This revamped venue offers excellent, but very reasonably priced fare along with a variety of beverages for your drinking and dinning pleasure. Check out a review here



The donation for an individual to register for the big May 19th tournament is $25 and for a team it is $50. Some great prizes will be awarded including an overnight stay at the luxurious Westin Hotel in the heart of downtown Portland!

                                                

Teams are made up of 2 players who play each turn off the same rack of letters and if you do not have a teammate don't worry - we will pair you up with another like-minded individual. Two games will be played during the afternoon each lasting a little over an hour, with a break between games so you'll have time for a crisp beverage and/or some tasty food. Scores will be calculated as the average game score for each competing pair. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the highest average score and more! The rules will be the same as the National Scrabble Association rules. As well, we will be using the Fourth Edition Scrabble Dictionary with all updates. (Please note that we reserve the right to modify these rules if tournament players and staff are in agreement. After all, it is just a charity event.)

We are also actively seeking businesses to sponsor the event. An excellent team-building opportunity, companies will receive appropriate recognition and be allowed to enter one team for every $250 worth of sponsorship they offer. Recognition varies with sponsorship levels, but included can be logos at the event, on our website, and in our statewide newsletter. More details are available. SCRABBLE NOTE:
The Gotham Tavern will also begin hosting a weekly free Scrabble Night every Monday starting April 16th, 2007! Game time starts at 6:00pm! Ten percent of your tab will go directly to supporting Oregon Literacy. Come by every week to enjoy a couple of games, meet new people, win fun prizes and tout your word play skills!
