| Are you interested in humanitarian aid, youth, technology and global issues? Become a Social Networking Web Intern for Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian aid organization. Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian aid organization, is launching a significant initiative to encourage young people to become powerful players in one of the most urgent issues of our time: global poverty. Using technological innovation, peer-to-peer education and leadership training, we’re providing the knowledge, perspectives and skills to create new generations of informed global leaders. The Social Networking Web Intern will work on the following Mercy Corps programs: • Global Citizen Corps: Empowers high school students in the U.S. to educate and rally their peers in efforts to end global poverty. • Global Envision: An online magazine about the role of globalization and sustainable development in combating poverty. • Global Action Awards: Honors high schools students in the U.S. who take outstanding actions to improve the lives of the world's poorest people. These programs are complemented by a broad range of opportunities to learn about global poverty, raise awareness, join campaigns and take action. Key Intern Responsibilities Represent Mercy Corps Youth Programs on Social Networking Web Sites • Manage content on social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, Care2, Gather, Friendster, and Xanga • Draft blog entries on social networking sites • Adapt our pages on social networking sites to become more visually appealing using latest tools and html coding • Check and reply to web site email as necessary • Communicate with members of networks using bulletins • Find new networks and features Minimum Qualifications The candidate must have an interest in youth and global engagement or past experience working on related issues. The candidate must be able to intern at Mercy Corps 2 days per week for a minimum of 3 months. In addition, candidates should demonstrate competency in the following areas of knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Excellent communications skills – verbal and written – in English • Proficient in Microsoft Office • Proficient in HTML • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment required Preferred Criteria • Ability to edit multimedia files (mp3s, mp4s, jpgs, gifs) • Photoshop knowledge • Interest in online communities Ad provided by Idealist.org |
